Writer's workshop : What will they be?

So this weeks prompts were great, as usual.  I chose to write about prompt number to since I find is fitting for my mind frame lately.

2.) Based on their personalities, what do you think your children will be when they grow up?

I have really been thinking about this lately, for what ever reason I don't know.  But I just want to know what I think the boys will do with their lives.  I have mostly been thinking about it with O since little be is a little young I don't know what he might do.  But O, he has a personality that shines builder or construction.  I think he is going to do something with his hands.  I think he is going to go into a field where he is building something.  He loves his wood.  He even got wood for Christmas and that was the best gift for him.
We have wood in every car, in the back yard, in our workroom and our living room.  O is always building something or fixing something.  He has his own workbench, which you can see in the picture, with tools and sanding blocks.
Every Friday my husband takes O to visit his granddad at the workshop that he is building a boat at.  O loves it.  He "helps" out, well as much as a 4 year old can help.
   O just loves his wood.

He will also build castles in his sand box and houses using his blocks.  He "fixes" the roof on his playhouse.
I will not be surprised when he grows up and decided to go into a field where he is building something.  I am not sure what but building.

I guess I will just have to wait and see what happens in the future!

My friends what do you think your little ones will do when they grow up?

As a child I grew up on the water.  My family had a sailboat and we sailed the Chesapeake Bay.  We would spend weeks at a time on the boat, my mom, my dad, my brother and I.  We traveled up and down the bay and saw all kinds of things.  We have been in very bad scary storms and all kinds of high winds.  Things that scared me at the time and woulds seem like something that would stick with me, but didn't.  I remember being in storms and thinking here we are in the middle of the water with a metal pole (the mast) sticking up from our boat, we are just asking for it.  Nothing ever happened.
The one fear I had and still carry with me today is a fear of bridges.  I remember sitting on the bow rail of the boat telling my dad where oncoming boats were (this was just a ploy to keep me busy) and being afraid whenever we went under a bridge.  For some reason I always envisioned a car falling from the bridge and hitting our boat.  Don't ask me where I got this idea or why I thought this I just did.  I did not like going under bridges.  To make things worse I did not like to drive over a bridge either because I was afraid that something would happen and we would veer off the bridge and fall into the water.
With that vision still in my mind to this day I do not like to drive over a bridge or go under one on a boat.  I do drive over bridges almost everyday and I am fine.  I just focus on where I am driving and don't look over the side. I also pray that there is no traffic that would cause me to stop on a bridge because then I might get really nervous.  Since we have sold our boat I don't go under many bridges.  We do get to take the boys out on the grandparents boats and one day we will have another boat so I will have to once again face my fear of going under bridges but I am sure I will be fine.  After all it is just a funny little fear.

I did not have a good picture to go with this so I found a picture of my parent's boat.  This is not my childhood sailboat, my brother owns that, but it is one of the boats I can take my boys out on now.

Writers Workshop: Oh Summer!

The Prompts:
1.) Your childhood neighborhood.

2.) I was holding on tight but…

3.) “It was as if an invisible thread hooked her to her boy. The thread could go taut or slack but it could never come undone, it could never reach the end of its spool because there was no end; it bound them forever.” What does unconditional love mean to you?

4.) Can it be saved? Think of something that is ruined when it’s totally wet: like a newspaper or a piece of cheese. Write a scene (truth or fiction) that involves you and a soaked item.

5.) What five images paint a perfect picture of summer to you? Put those five images together in a piece of writing.
**********************************************************************************

Oh summer, how much your meaning has change for me.  Summer used to mean no school, no work and all the time for me.  Summer used to mean summer jobs at the pool teaching little children to swim.  Then summer changed to no work for me but more time to spend with my little one.  More time to play and watch him grow.  Then came this summer and baby number two which meant that there would be no work after summer; making the meaning of summer change again.

Now summer means:
1.  Boating:

My husband and I both grew up on the water and boating was a big part of our childhoods.  Although we don't currently own a boat big enough for our family we use the grandparents' boats all the time.  Our boys will grow up boating and some day we will have a boat of our own.

2.  Life jackets:
Since we are out on boats and around the water all the time I would have to say a life jacket is never far away.  Seeing a life jacket both big and small always reminds me of summer.

3.  Bare feet

Summer brings warm weather which means, No Shoes!  I love to be able to just walk out my door and not have to worry about shoes.  I love to feel the grass between my toes.  No shoes just makes me fee carefree.  Summer is a carefree time of year.

4. Bathing suits

Bathing suits means pool time swimming and water.  Now I will have to say that bathing suits remind me of summer, but I did not say that I enjoy seeing myself in one.  But who can't like to see a rollie pollie little baby boy in one?

5.  Finally the beach:
I never was much of a beach person myself, but my husband always was.  Now this is one of those things about summer that has changed over time for me, since now I would say the beach is an image that represents summer for me.  Although I am not much for it, my boys seem to love it.  So I am now a Beach going momma and learning to love it.  How could I not love watching my babies playing in the sand and the surf.  How could I not love watching them having so much fun and being so proud of their sand castle?

So there you have it, the five images that mean summer for me.  These are the images for this year, I wonder what they will be next year?  Who knows; I will have to wait and see.

Dear Mommy and Daddy - Writer's workshop

I try to partisipate in the weekly writers workshop over at Moma's Losin' It.

The Prompts:
1.) Dear Mommy and/or Daddy…(write a letter to yourself from one of your children)

2.) This one time I was sleeping and…

3.) Things you oddly obsessed about as a child.

4.) Who needs a vacation when you can spend your summer doing this…

5.) What did you wish for most? Write about a time when it was just too hot.

********************************************************************************

Dear Mommy and Daddy,

First I want to say that I love you both and I love our family.  I want to let you know that I am OK with my new little brother.  I am adjusting and you are doing a good job helping me, hey I am only 3 give me a break.  I want you to know that I have loved him from the day you brought him home. Yes even though I told you that he needed to go back into your tummy when I first met him.
He is growing on me and I have to say I like being the big brother.  I like helping you with him and holding him.  I really like now that I can play with him.  He is fun.
Now Dad, I want you to know that I really like spending our time together.  I think it is fun going to the hardware store and picking out the wood we need to make things.  I love sitting on all the tractors and drooling over the grills.  I am not sure I am going to want to share this time with Little B when he gets older.  He may be my brother but I like having this time for me and you.  I also really love going out on the boat with you and Granddad.

Mommy,  I hope you know that I love you and always will.  I like to be called your little baby even though I say "No".  I love cuddling you and I don't always want to share you.  I am working on the sharing part but it is hard at times.  I want you to know that I really have fun doing things with you, even the little things like pushing the buttons on the washer and dryer. I like learning from you.  You take me on fun adventures doing lots of different things.

How many times can a boy like me say that they went rock wall climbing?  How many boys out there my age say that they are swimming like I can?  I don't think there are to many boys in this world that can honestly say that they have walked or in my case ride the miles that we have in our stroller together.  I love taking the time to go with you while you exercise.  As I am getting bigger I am going to walk it with you, that stroller is getting a little small.
Mommy and Daddy, I am getting to be such a big boy now.  I can count to 13 all by myself.  I can read my name and I am learning my letters.  I can throw a football and walk on the balance beam.

I can use the potty and buckle my own belt.  I can feed the dog and the cat without any help.  I am able to pick out my clothes and get dress on my own.  Hey sometimes I can even get my tennis shoes on without any help.  I can do all these things because I have learned from you guys.  I can do all these things because you have loved me and helped me grow.

You have made me the little boy that I am.  You have helped me learn to laugh and cry, smile and frown.  You have taught me how to say please and thank you.  You have helped me to be kind and caring.  I know that I test your patients and that you at times feel frustrated with me.  But I want you to know that I am only three and that I am learning. I want you to know that I love you and want to please you.  I don't mean to be naughty or unkind.  I don't want to not listen to you, I am just trying to figure life out.  I am just trying to find out where I fit in and how my life it going to be.  Sometimes I just need a little extra huge and right now I am not sure how to ask for it, so I do something to get your attention.  I am growing and learning.  There have been a lot of changes in my life, and you know I don't like change.  I don't want you to worry, I love you both and Little B too.  We make one great family that I am happy to be part of.  I will continue to test both of you, it is my job, but I am doing it to learn. You both are the greatest parents a boy like me could have.

Love,
O

Writers workshop

One of the blogs I follow, Moma's losin' It, does a writers workshop every week.  I like to try and participate in it weekly.  This week's prompt that I chose to do is:

Steppin outside the box (describe a time when you went way out of your comfort zone)

When I stop and think of a time were I stepped outside my box I think back to when I met my husband Rob.  I was a single girl and had been that way for many years.  I was happy that way and very independent.  I did not want someone to help me or care for me, I would not let anyone get close to me.  I had my friends and I was always the third wheel, but that was ok with me.  I can  be shy around new people, I am not a go out and get them kind of girl, I guess I am more now but not then.  So when a close girlfriend of mine broke up with her long time boyfriend she wanted to start doing a online dating site but she did not want to do it alone.  Now this was really not me and was stepping out of my box, but I did it and although I was slow at talking with people I did it.  Well it was not long before I was matched with Rob and after a few weeks of emails and talking on the phone we met.  As we got to know each other we found out that we had mutual friends, as well as we were both in our high school marching bands which means we have video of both of us on the same field at the same time.
Fast forward two years and we where getting married, all because I stepped outside my box and went with something new and different.  Something that was a challenge for me and made me believe in myself and the person I am.  Fast forward about 5 more years and here I am writing about it happily married for 5 years and have two wonderful boys.  I can't say more about how happy I am to step outside of my box.

It's your love - Mamma Kat's writer's workshop

One of the blogs that I follow and love to read does a weekly writer's workshop which I have been trying to do the last couple of weeks.I totally forgot that today was Thursday and did not have myself prepared, so I am going to try and write this while holding and feeding B since he has picked this day to have as one of his fuzzy days.  The prompt is to write about your wedding song and why you chose it.  Since tomorrow is our 5 year anniversary, I thought is was fitting.

On July 23, 2005 I married a man  that was dearest to my heart.  He was a friend, a lover, a confidant, a provider and now a husband.  I love our wedding.  We put a lot of time into planning it and making sure that everything represented us as a couple as well as individuals. Every detail from the Naval Academy chapel, where we got married, to the cake to our wedding song was carefully picked and had a meaning.

Our wedding song was "It's Your Love" by Tim McGraw.  It was chosen because it was country music, which my husband loved and because of the lyrics.  It talks about how love can change you and make you better than you were.  I felt like this was in a way describing me.  I was not a girl that had many boyfriends, I was always the friend of the boys or one of the guys.  I was independent and did not need or want a boyfriend or even a boy to open the door for me.  But things seem to change when I met my now husband and as the song says "it's your love, It just does something to me".  In this case it just seem to change me and make me look at the world and things a little differently.  I have to say that having Rob walk into my life has made me a better person, so again to the lyric "better than I was, more than I am".  This wedding song was chosen to represent us as a couple as well as individuals and I have to say it still does.  We are still growing and changing as a couple as well as individuals and it is our love that is doing it!
I still think it is a great song!
